A bit of an update on what happens after a magical three months in Greece. (Written Sept 1st, 2021)
I haven’t written in awhile but here is the update; I returned to Canada in the middle of August and it was bitter sweet. Not wanting to leave him or my summer adventures but nice to be home to see my family again and knowing I had to start my youth mobility visa process.
Once I finished my quarantine I went to get my second dose of the COVID vaccine so I could get that done and out of the way. No more needles for awhile I hope.
While I started the visa process, I also started working because I cant sit still and not having a purpose everyday drives me insane. Not to mention a little extra cash is always needed. I am trying to save as much as possible knowing that work will be tough for me to find in Athens. I also started Greek language classes which are hilariously hard but I will get into more detail on that in another post. For now I am home and working and applying for my visa. Also getting as much quality sister time in as possible. With her every weekend no matter what. We are both in complete denial that we wont be together again. I have worked away from home for three years but its one of those "you don't know what you've got till it's gone" situations.
Project Puppy
I got a job working for an organization I use to volunteer with a few years ago that raise service dogs. I am their communications/media relations person and its been an interesting adventure. Working for non-profits are…..challenging to say the lest. I love it because what they do, but as most non profits go they just don’t have the resources needed to have things run smoothly. Besides having a job that should be shared between at lest 4 people, its going well. Seeing all the dogs is hands down the best part.
Vasiliki In Vancouver For My Visa
Since I returned to Canada I have been emailing a lady at the Greek embassy in Vancouver. She has been my go to girl for getting all the documents needed to get my mobility visa. For anyone applying for a travel visa of any kind, just know its a process. I started emailing her in August when I got back and after months of back and forth and filling out documents, in the middle of November, I was able to go to Vancouver for my in person interview. That is where I was able to get it approved and finalized. I am now allowed to work and holiday in Greece for one year! Woo!
I cringe at the thought of any visa process as it is complicated no matter what. If you think you have everything you need, think again. There will always be another form, another payment, another certificate needed. It is endless.
Side note: Vancouver is a beautiful city and if you ever get the chance to visit you should. Very expensive, but very beautiful!
Next step; packing up my life and heading to Greece for a year adventure right after Christmas. As the Greeks would say, OPA!
